The regulatory framework came into full effect in February 2024, requiring all sports betting operators to obtain proper licensing from MINCETUR to operate legally within Peru. The government has implemented additional taxation through a Selective Consumption Tax that started at 0.3% and increased to 1% from July 2025, generating substantial revenue for tourism development, sports promotion, and mental health programs. Since regulation took effect, Peru has registered 4,516 authorized sports betting venues and successfully reduced illegal gambling operations by 40%, with MINCETUR blocking unauthorized platforms and working with payment providers to prevent transactions with unlicensed operators (2).
